Bandages
A "Band-Aid" or "Bandage" is the common term of American English. A bandage is a strip of material used to support, compress, immobilize, or protect a wound, poisonous bite or injured body part through several medical devices such as a splint or dressing. These medical devices are used to provide support to the body; to slow the flow of blood and they can also be used to restrict any part of the body.
Medical bandages and dressings are available in a variety of sizes and used to treat different wounds or injuries. Surgical medical bandages and sterile dressings are used in clinics, nursing homes, hospitals, home care aides and by rehabilitation facilities to treat patients with surgical or open wounds.There are several types of bandages are used in medical field such as:
First Aid Bandages:
First Aid Bandages can be used for several purposes such as applying pressure to bleeding wounds; immobilization and support for sprains, strains, and broken bones; and covering burns and wounds. The three main types of First Aid Bandages are triangular, tabular, adhesive and Ace.
Gauze Bandages:
A gauze bandage is very useful and placed in a First Aid Kit. These bandages are made by woven, thin fabric material that is placed over an injury or wound. They are also known as wound bandages. It can be used to keep the wound clean while allowing air to promote and penetrate healing; or to secure a dressing. Gauze bandages are the most common type of bandage and are available in various sizes.
Gauze bandages can work well on large lacerations, head injuries and burns that need a complex adhesive bandage. These bandages are good for hard to reach complex areas that may be difficult to bandage/dress. Gauze Bandages are versatile and can be used directly on a wound to cover any part of the body.
Adhesive Bandages:
An adhesive bandage is also known as a sticking plaster or cut bandages, which is a small medical bandage. It is used for normal injuries and does not require a full-size bandage. These bandages consist of a medical dressing of plain absorbent gauze held in place by fabric or plastic tape coated with adhesive.
The adhesive bandages are used to protect the cuts from bacteria, friction, dirt, or damage. So that healing process of the body is not disturbed. An additional function of adhesive bandages is that it holds the two cut ends of the skin together, which can make the healing process faster.
Elastic Bandages:
The elastic bandages are also known as an elastic wrap, ACE bandage, crepe bandage, or compression bandages. These bandages are stretchable bandage, which is used to provide localized pressure. These bandages are extensively used in hospitals, sports trainers, orthopedic clinics, and many other medical fields.
Elastic bandages are commonly used to treat bone fractures, muscle strains and sprains. They can also restrict swelling at the particular place of injury. These types of compression bandages are used when compression is required and provide support to the body
Tabular Bandages
The Tabular bandages are comfortably smooth and can be used on any part of the body. This bandage does not slip and protect your body. Tabular bandages are also known as support bandages. They are suitable for all sizes of limbs and dermatologically tested. Tabular bandages are reusable and fully washable.
